Whether you’re looking for places to grab a quick and filling lunch or wanting to add a fresh dinner option to your routine, eating healthy does not have to be boring! We’re here to tell you a few of our favorite healthy (and yummy) restaurants around The Magic City.
1. BLUEROOT
BLUEROOT is one of the coolest, freshest and healthiest dining options around town.
Owner Jennifer Ryan brings the menu to life by combining locally sourced ingredients with the skills of Chef Robin Bashinsky, a two-time James Beard award-winner.
2. Chopt
Coining “Better Tastes Better” as one of their core values, Chopt emphasizes how ingredients are sourced, treated and prepared.
You can grab a salad, bowl or wrap at two convenient locations around the Greater Birmingham Area.
3. Golden Temple Cafe
DYK that Golden Temple in Five Points South is Birmingham’s first and longest-running vegetarian restaurant? Since 1973, Golden Temple has served as a Natural Grocery Store and Cafe—serving vegan, vegetarian, organic and gluten-free options. Healthy eating is made easy here!
I stopped by and got a vegan grilled cheese with a salad and it lived up to the hype.
Plus, on your way out, you can grab vitamins, herbs and clothes from all over the world.
- Five Points
- Trussville
- Menu
- Our pick: Vegan grilled cheese
4. Kale Me Crazy
With the menu being as fun as its name, Kale Me Crazy is a must-visit when it comes to healthier options.
I stopped by the other day and grabbed some treats for my co-workers and they were a hit—especially the acai bowl.
Psst, try the Powerhouse and Tropical Trippin’ smoothies!
5. Chop N Fresh
This “salad concept” eatery sits in Mountain Brook’s Lane Parke. Chop N Fresh is known for serving fresh ingredients from local vendors— plus, they make their dressings in-house every day! Now you have to visit.
6. Greenhouse
We can’t make a healthy foods guide without mentioning Greenhouse.
Located in the Edgewood area of Homewood, this spot offers fresh, whole foods and drinks to have you “feeling good all the time.”
7. Brick & Tin
Brick & Tin uses sustainable and local ingredients in every dish. This means that the menu is loaded with ingredients sourced from local farms.
Head to one of the Birmingham Area locations and taste the hearty and healthy items for yourself.
- Downtown Birmingham
- Mountain Brook
- Our pick: Mushroom soup + Farro salad
8. Farm Bowl
Whether you’re stopping by for an on-the-go juice, or grabbing an acai bowl with an old friend, Farm Bowl is the place to go.
Nestled in Homewood, this spot also serves delicious oatmeal, dragon fruit bowls and smoothies. If you want to eat healthy while satisfying your sweet tooth, look no further.
9. Real & Rosemary
Real & Rosemary is one of my favorite spots around town. The selection of local veggies is top-notch and will be a go-to for fresh, healthy food upon your first visit.
P.S.—I recommend the superfood salad and sweet potato wedges.
